Our client, a well known real estate development and ownership firm, is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Counsel to join its legal team. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, this attorney will have significant involvement in sophisticated real estate transactions and work closely with senior management and business leaders as a key legal and business advisor to the company.
The Commercial Real Estate Counsel will have a leading role in transactions from inception through closing, including acquisitions and dispositions, development, design and construction, leasing, financing, joint ventures, and the management and operation of real estate assets, including multifamily, mid-rise and industrial properties. Counsel will take a leading role in structuring, negotiating and executing transactions and will have primary responsibility for the preparation and negotiation of transaction documents. The attorney will also oversee outside counsel when appropriate, advise business teams regarding contractual and regulatory obligations, and provide practical legal guidance on corporate governance and other matters affecting the company’s operations and investments.
The ideal candidate will have five to seven years of substantive commercial real estate experience, preferably developed at a leading law firm or within the legal department of a sophisticated real estate development, ownership or investment company. Candidates must have excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical and communication skills, together with strong judgment, critical thinking ability and the confidence to work directly with senior executives, business professionals, investors and outside counsel.
JD and admission to practice in New York are required. Periodic travel may be required. Compensation includes an annual base salary of $250K to $290K, plus a targeted annual bonus of up to 25% and an excellent benefits package.
