We all know the traditional workday runs from 9 to 5, but what if you find yourself more productive outside the normal office hours? Every individual is different. Some people wake up at the crack of dawn with bounds of energy. Others consider themselves “night owls” and get their best work done when the sun goes down. So it makes sense for both employers and employees to reevaluate whether we can unleash more of our potential by being more flexible in regards to the hours and time of day that business gets done.
This is especially true for remote workers. A nonlinear workday is all about aligning your workday with your natural energy levels, while building in both physical and mental breaks. Breaks don’t have to be long, but it’s important to step away from the desk and screen for a bit to get some fresh air, go for a walk, meditate, stretch, socialize with coworkers, etc. Studies show that brain performance is higher in individuals who incorporate regular breaks in their workday.
