Nearly Half of Office Workers Are Back in NYC

This week on The JSA Blog, we’re sharing some news from the Staffing Industry.

Although COVID is still very much real, the disruption that the pandemic caused over the past two and a half years continues to decrease in all facets of our lives. At the peak of the pandemic, there was almost no one commuting into NYC for office work. Now on a typical workday, almost 50% of office workers are in NYC, a jump from the 38% figure that was reported for April. On the flip side, 16% of workers are “fully remote”, down from 28% in April.

For those that have adjusted to and prefer the more flexible work routine, hybrid work does seem to have staying power. Just 9% of office workers are making the commute full time, with a 3 days in and 2 days home schedule becoming the most popular. Although NYC businesses are optimistic that these trends will continue in 2023, with more workers commuting into the office and less working fully remote, the levels of pre-pandemic office work don’t appear to be returning anytime soon.
